iTunes Drives Me Crazy

I've used iTunes ever since it was ready on the Windows platform. The most recent version is light years better than the original. But two nagging problems still exist with playlists and user data like ratings. And since playlists are probably the most time oppressive action and source of personal angst, it's not a good thing when they disappear. And on the Windows side, playlists have a bad habit of getting messed up way to often.

This most recent petite saga with playlists started innocently enough, a friend bought his son a new iMac. In the last few years Apple has brought out some great lower end units (well under 00). This has been one of the reasons they have increased their shop share. The iMac that my friend bought is a good example of this new breed of Apple computer. It has a nice 20-inch screen, is self contained, and very uncomplicated in setting up.

As far as speed goes, it's as good as any of the medium level Pcs and much better than most. It appears to be about the speed of my new petite Msi Netbook which is uncluttered and has the maximum ram. I de facto like my Netbook since it's so small and quick in basic email and surfing. Anyway, the iMac is a good choice for a home computer and has all the bells and whistles you could want like web cam, gorgeous screen, speakers, wireless network card, microphone, and lots of favorite applications.

So the setup was quick and easy, there was only one petite glitch with the wireless router that was probably my fault and not the iMac's. In fact the iMac setup seemed much quicker than a Pc, not sure why. So we looked at what we wanted to replacement from the original Pc to the new iMac. Office documents of all types just whizzed right over with no problems. We found similar software for many of the tasteless tasks and got them all setup and working. I keep double clicking and got lost in the menus sometimes but all in all it was easy and quick.

Ok, now for the iTunes music. Being the crudgemudgen I am, I made two back ups of the iTunes on the Pc. One with the iTunes menus and one hand-operated way. This was 60 gigs of music that came from a million different places and would be a bad dream to replace, if potential at all. The one thing I noticed right away is how iTunes on the iMac was much quicker in approximately every function.

So the first thing I tried was simply copying the music files over from the Pc to the iMac. Ok, all the music showed up so I imported the library. It was taking a long time to get album and song info but that was normal. The question was no playlists. None, nada, the files were incorporated into the principles and but were not usable on the iMac.

Ok, lets go find the files that comprise the playlists and see what's keeping them from showing up. This is an Xml file that contains all the reference points to the file locations. Oops, it's keeping the Pc formula of directory structure, which is different on the iMac (Pcs file paths use letter designations, iMac doesn't). Ok, let's get the favorite text editor and see if we can replace the drive letter with the level path information that the iMac needs to navigate. I was aware that the directory buildings and file naming methods could be an issue but figured iTunes would fix it on the import. Wrong.

This took a few minutes since the playlists file was huge. I double-checked the file paths and made sure all drive letters were gone. Ok, import the library again and bingo; we had playlists and other data that we were missing before. There were a few that got chewed up somehow but easy adequate to fix through the program. I did consideration that some information still didn't make it like the play count. But I never understood what purpose that served anyway unless you were being charged for some rental music.

iTunes on the Pc is lethargic and very slow once you get a lot of music. Not so on the iMac. This could be the developer's fault when creating iTunes for Windows but it is noticeable. And even though I told this story in a few minutes, trust me when I say this complex a few hours since the library was big and it took awhile to backup and import each time.

I was going to replace one of my older units with a new Pc with Windows 7 but now I just might get an iMac. I was impressed with the one I just setup and the reduced risk in malware and viruses is a very good thing. And I de facto liked iTunes a lot better on the iMac too.

Limited (500 visas per year, 25 visas for State with nine (9) million or less people and 50 visas for State with over nine (9) million population) H-1C visas are issued to foreign-trained registered nurses licensed to institution in the State and to work temporarily at hospitals in designated condition pro Shortage Areas (Hpsaa), as defined by the U.S. Division of condition and Human Services (Hhs) and carefully by the Dol.

Initial period of stay is up to three (3) years and minute to three (3) years. But this classification had expired on December 20, 2009.

3. H-2A, H-2B, H-3 and J-1 (Agriculture/Seasonal/Trainees):

(a) H-2A visas are for foreign workers to perform temporary or seasonal agricultural work at the time and place where there are insufficient U.S. Workers who are able, willing, and ready to do the work.

The H-2A manager must accumulate a labor certification determination from the Dol that the employment of an alien laborer would not adversely influence the wages and working conditions of similarly employed U.S. Workers, as well as provide housing and worker's payment insurance.

(b) H-2B visas capped at 66,000 a year are for foreign workers to perform work for a one-time occurrence or a seasonal or peak or intermittent need in nonagricultural sectors of the economy.

An application for labor certification is likewise filed by the U.S. manager and approval obtained from Dol. And as in all H applications, Form I-129 is filed with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (Uscis).

Foreign workers are admitted initially for the time stated in the labor certification, with a maximum of one (1) year, field to yearly extensions, to a maximum work stay of three (3) years, and a 6-month foreign residency requirement prior to another application.

(c) H-3 visas are designed for aliens arrival to receive study and training not designed to provide effective employment, unless incidental and needful to the training and pursuing a work face the United States.

They are admitted for the period of the approved training schedule for a maximum distance of two (2) years, field to a 6-month foreign residency requirement prior to a subsequent application for the same beneficiary alien.

The type of training schedule should not exist in the alien's home country or country of origin, and is not effortlessly ready in any other country.

(d) J visas are issued by U.S. Consuls abroad and meant for change visitors, foreign physicians, professors, students, teachers, bona fide trainees or interns, au pair youths, etc.; who have enough funds and are fluent in English.

A learner schedule for agriculture, hotel, and tourism is minute to twelve (12) months with some exceptions. Other training programs may last eighteen (18) months. In order to get added training, trainees should be face the United States for the 2-year foreign residency requirement, unless a waiver thereof is granted by the Uscis.

Waivers may be based on:
(i) inherent persecution in country of origin;
(ii) exceptional hardship on U.S. people or legal permanent resident spouse or child;
(iii) no objection by country of origin; and
(iv) invite by curious state or federal agency.

4. R-1, I, D, A and G Visas:

(a) R-1 visas are for religious workers (ministers, professionals in religious work [cantors, liturgical workers, broadcasters, etc.] or religious vocations [monks, nuns, etc.]) who: (1) two (2) years immediately before the filing of the application on Form I-129 has been a member of the religious denomination having a nonprofit religious society in the U.S.; and (2) will be working for the U.S. Religious society or affiliate.

The R-1 status is initially for three (3) years, but minute to a maximum of five (5) years. The spouse and minor children may accompany or ensue to join in R-2 status.

The R-1 religious laborer may be eligible again for the same status after five (5) years, if he or she resides face of the U.S. For one year, unless he or she is able to adjust to legal permanent resident status as a extra immigrant (Forms I-360 and I-485).

(b) I visas are for representatives of media (foreign press, television, radio, film, etc.) who will perform solely their work in the U.S. They may be employed by a branch, subsidiary, or affiliate in the U.S. Of the foreign media business to perform activities for the advantage of the foreign media.

Their admission is for period of status, which could be indefinitely. And they may adjust to legal permanent home without restrictions. Dependents designated also as "I" are required isolate employment authorization to work in the U.S.

(c) D visas are for foreign crewmen who are arrival to the U.S. To join and work on board a vessel. They consist of crewmen for the general performance of the vessel as well as trainees, cooks, employees of concessions on board such as barbers, beauticians, and waiters on cruise ships.

They may be issued C-1 (transit) visas to join the ship in the U.S. Thereafter, they may be issued Form I-95 (landing permit) to be allowed in U.S. Ports.

Initial admission is for twenty-nine (29) days. No extension nor convert of status is allowed. If only on C-1 visa, they cannot adjust status to legal permanent resident. If on D status, they cannot adjust even if married to a U.S. Citizen, unless grandfathered under Section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (a family or employment-based immigrant request for retrial was filed on or before January 14, 1998, or the most recent before April 30, 2001, [if the later applicant were physically in the U.S. On December 21, 2000]).

(d) A and G polite and international organizations visas are for ambassadors, ministers, diplomats, officers, and their families (A-1), other officials and employees of foreign governments and their families (A-2), and personal employees and servants (maids) of A-1 and A-2 and their families (A-3), as well as resident representative, staff, and families of permanent mission of a foreign government to the U.N., I.M.F., O.A.S., etc. (G-1), other accredited representatives of foreign government, soldiery officers, personnel, and immediate families (G-2), as well as G-1 and G-2 from foreign governments not recognized by the U.S. (G-3), officers and employees of international organizations and immediate families (G-4), and lastly attendants, servants, and personal employees of G-1 to G-4, who may be admitted for three (3) years with renewals (G-5).

5. O and P Entertainment Visas:

(a) O visas are for aliens who have "extraordinary quality in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics," who have demonstrated such quality "by sustained national or international acclaim."

They enter the U.S. To continue the type of work they do abroad, although the work in the U.S. Does not require a man of wonderful ability.

O-1 applicants cannot self-petition; they are petitioned through Form I-129 by U.S. Agents or promoters of their artistic or athletic performances on extra events, who submit itineraries with the application to Uscis.

Persons assisting O-1 applicants as integral part of their performances may be issued O-2 visas, and spouses and children of O-1 and O-2 beneficiaries may accompany or ensue to join them on O-3 status.

O-1 and O-2 petitions are required to consist of written advisory opinion from the proper union or guild, attesting to the beneficiary's expertise/skills and "no objection" to the performance(s) or event(s) in the United States, unless re-entering the U.S. To perform similar activities within two (2) years of obtaining consultation, or merely requesting for extensions of stay.

Initial admission is for the time the Uscis approves to perform the activities, but not exceeding three (3) years. Extensions of one (1) year increments may be granted for the same event(s) or series of performances.

(b) P visas are particularly for internationally-recognized athletes or group performers, such as musical groups or bands performing for at least one (1) year, (P-1A) as well as persons who are integral or needful part of an entertainment group who have had a sustained and colossal connection with the group for at least one (1) year (P-1B).

International recognition and the one (1) year connection may be waived for safe bet performers. P visa holders are allowed to stay temporarily to perform in competition or event or performance. Spouses and minor children may come with or following to join as P-4.

As in O visas, consultation with a proper union or guild is required for P request for retrial (Form I-129) approval. P-1 athletes may be admitted up to five (5) years with one (1) extension, while admission of a P-1 entertainment group may not exceed one (1) year. And spouses and children may be admitted for the period of stay of the needful beneficiary.

6. L-1 and Tn Visas:

(a) L-1 visas are for intra-company transferees, who are employed abroad as managers, executives, or persons with specialized skill for one (1) year of the past three (3) years by a parent, branch, subsidiary, or affiliate of a U.S. Company, before the filing of its application (Form I-129).

The alien beneficiary enters to work in a managerial or executive (L-1A) capacity, or in work captivating specialized knowledge (L-1B) for the U.S. Company, which may be for behalf or nonprofit. No prevailing wage is required as compensation, and the job need not be full-time.

Moreover, the parent and subsidiary associates abroad and in the U.S. Need not be in the same business or occupation. Nor is there any capitalization requirement for the U.S. Company.

Aside from the quarterly Form I-129 fee of 0.00, a one-time fraud fee of 0.00 is required for L-1 applications. If the U.S. business is a start-up, admission for L-1 is for one (1) year. Otherwise, managers and executives are minute to seven (7) years and those with specialized knowledge to five (5) years. Spouses and children may be admitted on L-2 visas for the period of stay of the needful beneficiary.

Spouses of L-1 may be issued employment authorization (Form I-766) for the period of stay not to exceed two (2) years.

(b) Tn visas are for citizens form Canada and Mexico arrival to engage in pro activities for U.S. Employers under the North American Free Trade agreement (Nafta), signed on December 08, 1993.

Nafta defines "activities at a pro level" as requiring "at least a baccalaureate (bachelor's) degree or appropriate credentials demonstrating status as a professional." The regulations (8 C.F.R. §214.6(c)) list the professions covered by Nafta.

No Form I-129 is required, nor a labor condition application (Lca), nor a labor certification approval, only documentation at a port of entry or center for Canadians. A Tn visa is required for Mexicans, but likewise no approved Form I-129, nor Lca.

Form I-94 (Departure Document) is issued as a complicated entry for one (1) year and can be extended on Form I-129. No license to institution is required to enter as a Tn, but licensure may be enforced by the state Division involved.

Billboard uses the airplay measurements of Nielson BDS to determine the most popular rap songs, while websites such as Ontheradio and Doipod keep track of the rap artists downloaded most frequently on iTunes. Retail websites such as Amazon also have music charts listing top selling artists by genre. Currently, these charts are dominated by Drake, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Flo Rida, Kanye West and B.o.B. The following rap hits appear at the top of multiple music charts and currently receive the most radio airplay and generate significant sales of albums and singles.

Currently the number one rap song on the Billboard Rap Charts, "Love the Way You Lie" holds a variety of impressive rankings on other music charts, including the following:

The song is also ranked by Billboard as the most downloaded ringtone at the moment. Together, the two artists have achieved popularity across multiple genres, a feat not easily accomplished.

Unlike Eminem's current hit, Fancy is clearly preferred by the rap and hip hop community. Still, its ranking at 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 is impressive for an artist with such a short chart history. Until this summer, only one of Drake's rap songs called "Forever" found success, and even this was due to the featured artists Eminem, Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Currently, Drake takes second place to Eminem on the Billboard Top Rap Songs. He also ranks third with "Miss Me" Featuring Lil Wayne and has several other rap songs featured on various music charts.

Far*East Movement Featuring Cataracs & Dev

Despite its ranking of eighth place on the Billboard Rap Chart, "Like a G6" is worthier of attention than higher ranked songs, due to its astronomical rise in popularity. Currently ranked second on Billboard's Digital Songs Chart and sixth on the Billboard Hot 100, "Like a G6" recently jumped up from 13th place on the Billboard Rap Chart and was named the "Greatest Gainer" of the week. These rankings are especially impressive, considering that the song has only been on the charts for a measly four weeks and the artist, Far*East Movement, is a relatively new face in the music community. Chances are, "Like a G6" will hit the top spot on the Hot 100 and the Billboard Top Rap Songs in the near future.

Selena: A Life Remembered (Part 2)

As Selena's popularity grew placing additional demands on the band (e.g. travel), Abraham removed Selena from the 8th grade, drawing immediate unwarranted criticism. Some accused him of violating Child Labor laws while others warned that he was ruining his kids. "They'll be surrounded by drinking and drugs" and "it's going to have an effect on them," the critics incorrectly predicted.[1]

Despite the skeptics, Selena remained unaffected. She continued to have fun and enjoy singing. She kept her down-to-earth personality and refused to snub anyone, believing that "if you treat people good, it [will] come back" in the end.[2] Accordingly, Selena always maintained a great repertoire with her fans and audience.[3] At the same time, she also kept up with her academics and earned a G.E.D. from a Chicago-based Correspondence School at 17.

As Selena was growing into a star, her brother, A.B. III was becoming an accomplished songwriter and producer, after originally taking it up to supply his youngest sister with the quality, original material that the band lacked. One of his first songs, "Dame Un Beso" enjoyed moderate success. Before long, A.B. III supplanted his father as the band's leading songwriter. In addition, Ricky Vela, another band member also assisted with music composition.

When the band's second album, "Alpha" was released, it brought Selena her first music honors. She won "Female Vocalist of the Year" at the 1987 West Texas Hispanic Music Awards and KFLZ Awards ceremonies and was voted "Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Performer of the Year" at the Tejano Music Awards. This recognition introduced Selena to two influential people: Rick Trevino, founder of the Tejano Music Awards and Johnny Canales, a television personality on one of the top-rated Spanish shows. Their efforts gave Selena much needed publicity, expanding the horizons for "Selena Y Los Dinos."

Two more albums, "Preciosa" and "Dulce Amor" were released in 1988 earning Selena greater recognition. With album sales exceeding 20,000, Selena's name began to spread beyond Texas. Not surprisingly, Selena was a finalist for "Female Vocalist of the Year" for 1988 and "Terco Corazon" and A.B. III were nominated for "Single of the Year" and "Songwriter of the Year," respectively, at the Tejano Music Awards.

Despite Selena's growing fame, the Quintanillas' lifestyle had not changed much. They continued to live on beans and hamburgers and shared just about everything. As a result, they had "Nobody You Know" written at the top of the band's bus, "Big Bertha's" front windshield.

Their fortunes, though, changed dramatically when Selena was signed by Jose Behar, the former head of Sony's Latin music division and creator of the Capitol/EMI Latin label in 1989. The signing came about when Behar and a friend, Mario Ruiz, who became President of EMI Mexico attended the 1989 Tejano Music Awards searching for new talent and discovered Selena. The events went as follows according to the account by Jose Behar:

"...We were standing at the back of the auditorium when we saw her. Mario and I looked at each other like, 'Wow. This is special.'"

"...I said, 'It's interesting. Women don't sell in the Tejano market.' And they really hadn't. Yet I said to myself, 'This is the crossover act I'm looking for."[4]

Afterwards, Behar, believing that he had found the next Gloria Estefan, a popular and successful crossover Latin artist went backstage and met and signed Selena after talking to her father. At the time, Behar never imagined how many records Selena would eventually sell.

Despite her signing with Capitol/EMI Latin and her taking "Female Vocalist of the Year" honors at the 1989 and 1990 Tejano Music Awards, and also "Female Entertainer of the Year" at the 1990 Tejano Music Awards, Selena's first few new releases did little better than her previous ones. However, another breakthrough came in 1991 when she was paired with Alvaro Torres in "Buenos Amigos." Their video soared to #1 on the Billboard Latin Tracks Chart giving Selena national exposure. An appearance on "Donde Quiero Que Estes" with the Barrio Boyzz, an immensely popular Latin band further enhanced Selena's rising stature, enabling her to enter the international Latin market with her solo hits, "La Carcacha" and "Como La Flor."

Johnny Canales then helped make Selena an instant Celebrity in Mexico leading to an offer star in a leading role in a Mexican Soap opera, which she turned down because of its steamy scenes. Though determined to make it big, Selena wasn't about to sacrifice her principles. She valued her appeal to her broad audience that consisted of young children and grandparents alike.

Performing in skin-tight pants, low-cut bustiers, and shiny outfits was her limit. Unlike many others, Selena did not need to forego her morals for fame. Her natural-born talent was sufficient. In addition, when Johnny Canales compared Selena to Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson, all pop stars, he declared, "I'd say [Selena] was like those people, but better. Those people never sang Tejano. She could do what they do, but it would be hard for them to do what she does."[5]

Also during this time, the Los Dinos Band was expanding, providing Selena with some of her happiest moments. Pete Astudillo, a Laredo, Texas native and talented artist joined in 1989. Together, he and Selena went on to perform hit duets like "Yo Te Amo" and "Amame, Quiereme."[6] Accordingly the pair were twice nominated for "Vocal Duo of the Year" at the Tejano Music Awards.

A second great addition was Chris Perez, who briefly joined Los Dinos in 1988, left a year later to try it on his own, and then returned in 1990. Chris was a talented guitarist who eventually became Selena's husband. They were married on April 2, 1992.

Although Selena's father initially opposed the marriage, he soon viewed Chris as "a son."[7] Afterwards, Selena and Chris shared a nearby house, with her parents living next door in one house and her brother, A.B. III and his wife and children in another. Between the three houses there were nine dogs, five of which belonged to Selena, an avid animal lover. Later the pair bought a piece of land a little further away with plans to build a larger house to start a family and run a small farm. Prior to her death, Selena had already picked out the furniture.

As Selena's career took off, she released two hit albums: "Ven Conmigo" featuring the hit song "Baila Esta Cumbia" in 1990 and "Entre A Mi Mundo" featuring the hit songs "La Carcacha" and "Como La Flor" in 1992. The great success of these albums completed Selena's transformation from "unknown" to "star." Then a show featuring Selena, La Mafia, and Emilia Navaira at the Summit in Houston in the summer of 1991 drew more than 9000 people. Next followed "Selena Live" in 1993, which gave the young singer her first Grammy along with three Tejano Awards, opening the door to mainstream pop.

After four years of attempts, Jim Behar, using Selena's soaring popularity and sales to their advantage, finally convinced EMI's pop division to give her the crossover chance she had been dreaming of. Prior to 1993, Behar had faced repeated setbacks and had to start over each time when key executives left the Company. As one EMI executive, Nancy Brennan, Vice President of Artist and Repertoire summarized, "All he [Behar] ever talked about was Selena. He was like a broken record, 'Selena, Selena...'"[8]

Brennan was exposed to Selena when she attended a Billboard Latin Music Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada to see Jon Secada, an immensely popular EMI artist. There, Selena's opening made a lasting impression. By December 1993, Selena had been signed by EMI's SBK subsidiary to begin her crossover album, which took a year-and-a-half to produce due to the tedious effort of finding the right songs and producers.

The 1994 "Amor Prohibido" success also added to the crossover delays since Selena was requested to appear everywhere. Nancy Brennan recounted one such episode when had been forced to postpone a recording session: "This is the first time I have ever made a debut album by an artist who was too busy to record for me. How can you tell someone, 'No I don't want you to play the Astrodome for 60,000 people; I want you to work on your record.' Everyone wants her."[9]

The "Amor Prohibido" album featuring four #1 Latin Singles (title track "Amor Prohibido" "No Me Queda Mas," "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom," and "Fotos Y Recuerdos" launched Selena's greatest year to date. When "Amor Prohibido" came out, it promptly replaced Gloria Estefan's "Mi Tierra" at #1 on Billboard's Latin Tracks Charts and even made the top 200 on Billboard's Pop Charts. It led to six awards at the Tejano Music Awards ceremony attended by more than 45,000 people - "Female Entertainer of the Year," "Female Vocalist of the Year," "Orchestra Album of the Year," Record of the Year," "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" "Song of the Year," and "Techno Cumbia, "Crossover Song of the Year." More than 400,000 copies had sold at the time of Selena's death less than a year after its release.

Selena also realized two more dreams in 1994. First, she opened a boutique/salon in Corpus Christi called "Selena Etc." Since childhood, Selena had dreamed of designing clothing and jewelry. Second, she played a bit-role "Don Juan DeMarco," a film released in early 1995 that starred Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp and offered the potential of leading to greater and perhaps leading roles. Acting had been a recent dream of Selena's.

With the impending release of Selena's cross-over album, "Dreaming of You," her wide-spread fame and rocketing demand, a million-dollar record deal, a Grammy Award, endorsements from sponsors like Coca Cola and her own line of clothing, it seemed like Selena's meteoric career could only rise higher. By this time, Selena had been named "one of the most successful Latin entertainers in the world" by "Hispanic Business" magazine.

The sold-out Astrodome Concert for the Houston Livestock and Rodeo February 1995 with a crowd of 61,000+, at the time, the largest in Astrodome history only strengthened this belief. Yet ironically and almost prophetically, when Selena was asked to speculate on her future during a July 1994 interview, she modestly stated, "I just hope still to be alive, hopefully singing still and later on, maybe 10 years yonder, I hope to have a family by then."[10]

Four years earlier, Yolanda Saldivar, a self-professed "biggest Selena fan" had come into Selena's life after persistently requesting to start a fan club in her honor. Although Abraham had initially refused, he eventually gave in when Yolanda agreed to make it "not-for-profit" and donate leftover proceeds to charity. Eventually Yolanda's relationship with the Quintanillas deepened when Selena named her Operations Manager to handle sales, customer-relations, and "Selena Etc.'s" finances.

At the time, no one saw Saldivar's dark obsession. Furthermore, no one had been aware that Yolanda had failed to pay off a 00 student loan, left her nursing job under suspicious circumstances, been turned down by Shelly Lares, a prominent, young Tejano singer to form a "Shelly Lares Fan Club," and been accused of stealing 00 from a dermatologist she had worked for.

However, by early 1995, Abraham Quintanilla began to receive complaints from upset fans who reported that they were not receiving the Selena packets, consisting of a T-shirt, baseball cap, cassette/CD, and autographed poster they had paid for in membership dues. Money also began to go missing from the boutiques. With their suspicions growing, the Quintanillas conducted an investigation and discovered that Yolanda had written four checks, including one to herself for 00 from the Fan Club's books. Selena's father then angrily confronted Yolanda who claimed she could explain everything if given some time. Afterwards, Saldivar purchased a .38 caliber gun.

Yet despite the mounting evidence, Selena sent Yolanda to Mexico to assist with opening a "Selena Etc." boutique in Monterrey. Hopeful that they could remain friends after the confrontation, Selena was willing to give Saldivar the chance she had requested - to "prove her innocence and find the missing papers."

Then while in Mexico, Yolanda phoned Selena to hysterically report that the car containing the documents had been stolen and that she had been raped. Yet Yolanda refused medical care when she returned to Corpus Christi. Instead, she requested that Selena meet her at the Day's Inn motel in Corpus Christi. When Selena and her husband arrived, Yolanda failed to produce any documents.

Afterwards, Yolanda called Selena around midnight on the morning of March 31, 1995 claiming that she was suffering from internal bleeding caused by the rape. During the phone conversation, Saldivar pleaded for Selena to return alone, which she did in the morning.

Once there, Selena drove Yolanda to the hospital where she retracted her rape story. Afterwards Selena drove her back to the motel where they both argued after, it is believed, Selena fired her and planned to return a Faberge Egg ring funded by all of the boutique employees, which she had been misled into believing that Yolanda had generously given to her as a gift.

Upon hearing the argument and a gunshot, a maid cleaning a nearby room looked out the window and saw Selena clutching her chest, screaming for help as she fled from Yolanda who clutched the .38 in her right hand, aimed and fired again.

When Selena made it to the lobby, she collapsed, bleeding profusely from her wound. Although the desk clerk locked the door and called 911 for an ambulance, it was too late. Efforts to revive Selena, despite a blood infusion and electric shocks that briefly restarted her heart, were to no avail. She was pronounced dead at 1:05 PM. Afterwards, tens of thousands filed past Selena's open coffin to pay their last respects as her body lay in state.

Today, nearly 12 years after her death, Selena's legacy lives on. Despite the tragedy, Selena made the crossover into mainstream and is an icon whose spirit still lives. Reminder's of Selena's warmth, generosity, and indelible beauty are all around Corpus Christi. Mirador de la Flor stands along the Gulf shore while a museum dedicated to her career stands only a few miles away. Each year thousands visit Selena's grave, Mirador de la Flor, and the Selena Museum. Selena memorabilia remains popular with rare autographs going at times for more than a 00. With her continued fame and popularity, it would not be surprising if the United States Post Office eventually issued a stamp to honor Selena's enduring legacy.
